(2019) composition for site-specific performance
A composition for a choir of women, performed as part of Into the Mountain, a project led by artist/choreographer Simone Kenyon.
Informed by the ecologies and environments of the Cairngorms, and the lyrical and embodied prose of Nan Shepherd’s The Living Mountain, the project explores and celebrates women’s relationships with Scotland’s mountains, culminating in a series of performances and guided walks in Glenfeshie, featuring Simone Kenyon’s choreography and a new vocal score by Hanna Tuulikki.
The vocal composition drew from Nan Shepherd’s sonic descriptions of the Cairngorms, as well as traditional Aberdeenshire song. Tuulikki co-conducted the score with Lucy Duncombe, who facilitated the rehearsals.
