2014 (composition, visual score)
A composition for violin and cello, inspired by Heartsease (Viola tricolor). Entwining together the flower’s rich assortment of common names – mostly associated with love in its many forms – and applying these directly onto the musical stave, the visual score is an invitation to the players to abstract words into sounds, transplanting language into music.
The piece was written for string duo High Heels and Horse Hair, as part of TRANSPLANTED, a series of new works inspired by James Oswald’s Airs for the Seasons.
